In case you didn't realize from the flood of emails and tweets, today is Valentine's Day. And how better to celebrate love than by giving that special someone the gift of print (or e-book, it is 2013, after all)? To judge from marketing departments best efforts, that is the great hope. And if your Valentine is disappointed by, say, a paperback edition of The Marriage Plot instead of flowers or chocolates or jewelery, maybe it's time to rethink things.

Or maybe not everything should be billed as Valentine's Day gift.
