TRENTON – The chair of the Senate Environment and Energy Committee said Thursday a Fenimore Landfill closure bill will be released June 13.
After hearing some of the testimony this morning from officials of the Morris County town of Roxbury where the landfill is situated, Sen. Bob Smith said that S2617 will be advanced at the meeting two weeks from today.
The bill is one of the Republican-sponsored proposals pulled from committee agendas following a partisan dispute between Democratic Senate President Steve Sweeney and GOP Minority Leader Sen. Tom Kean Jr. a few weeks ago.
Today’s hearing was slated at the urging of bill sponsor Sen. Anthony Bucco because of the health issues at stake.
Committee member Sen. Christopher Bateman urged passage of the bill, but Smith said the Office of Legislative Services had some “constitutional questions’’ about the bill, and that a “correct’’ version will move ahead at the June 13 session.
