Cool seance, dude.

L.A.-based Provision 3D Media would like to create a life-sized hologram that could float around your living room without any sort of technological smoke and mirrors. And so of course, the company has launched a Kickstarter campaign (via Mashable) in order to raise the $950,000 needed to develop a working prototype, basically. (They’re currently at $11,418 with 18 days to go.)

The company promises they can actually pull this big promise off: “We’ve successfully developed, produced, and are continuing to ship Holographic displays ranging from 3 inches all the way up to 52 inches in size,” and now they just want the scratch to scale it up.

The pitch on the product page, however, is very specific:

Right, of course.

Despite a trailer chock full of clips from scifi movies, the main applications for the company’s current technology seems to be novel ways of presenting consumer products like Pepsi in supermarkets and such. An affordable consumer version seems way off. So don’t hold your breath for a Slave Leia sex-o-gram just yet.
