To Do Sunday: Brooklyn Wants its MTV

MTV’s 2013 Video Music Awards boasts performances by pop royalty like Justin Timberlake (a special honoree), newly wannabe- gangsta Miley Cyrus, Bruno MarsMacklemoreRyan Lewis, Katy Perry and Kanye West. It is also the return of Lady Gaga to the spotlight, singing the first single from her much-anticipated new album, Artpop (hopefully not in a dress made of meat—or any food product). This year, the music station has embraced its inner hipster: It is the first time the show will be held in Brooklyn, and the Moonman trophy has been redesigned by artist KAWS. There will be no official host for the ceremony, but plenty of stars are showing up like the tattooed boys of One Direction, who will make lots of girls under 13 faint as they hit the stage to present an award.

Barclay’s Center, 620 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn, (917) 618-6700, 8pm-11pm, sold out.
