Republican Peter Inverso, a former state senator looking to reclaim the seat he vacated six years ago, is up with the first television spot of the general election.
The ad, entitled “Special Public Servant” touts Inverso’s two decade career in the Senate will run on cable stations in Mercer and Middlesex Counties.
Inverso’s comeback attempt was highly anticpated by Republican leaders hoping to pick off the 14th District seat. Democratic state Sen. Lilnda Greenstein holds the seat now and has fought off three strong challenges to maintain her hold.
Fundraising reports filed over the summer showed Greenstein with a strong money lead over Inverso and she came out of the gate early with heavy organized labor support in the union-heavy 14th.
Inverso, who retired from the Senate in 2007, hopes to reclaim the seat on the strength of his name and with the help of Gov. Chris Christie, who the GOP hopes will have long coattails come November.
A Democratic source tells PolitickerNJ that Greenstein is due up with her first ad on Monday.
