Martin Klosterfelde will join Phillips auction house as its new “Director and International Contemporary Art Specialist,” according to a release from the company this morning.
Mr. Klosterfelde comes to Phillips after 18 years running the Klosterfelde gallery in Berlin.

NEW YORK CITY, NY – 9 September 2013 – Phillips is pleased to announce the appointment of Martin Klosterfelde as Director and International Contemporary Art Specialist. Berlin-based Klosterfelde is responsible for bringing Phillips’s expertise in modern and contemporary art and design to the region.

Second generation gallerist, Martin Klosterfelde joins the company after 18 successful years as owner of KLOSTERFELDE gallery in Berlin where he created an international stage for numerous artists including John Bock, Christian Jankowski and Matt Mullican. Prior to opening the gallery Klosterfelde worked for Barbara Gladstone in New York following his studies at Christie’s Education in London and New York. Klosterfelde has also demonstrated his longstanding commitment to the art industry as founding member of Gallery Weekend in Berlin and ABC Art Berlin Contemporary, as well as serving on Frieze London and Art Basel Miami Beach committees.
