Nearly Eight Million People Visited Tate Last Year

The BBC reports that Tate’s annual attendance numbers to its four galleries have shown that 2012 to 2013 saw its highest ever annual attendance figure: 7.7 million people.

The numbers were most likely helped by the Damien Hirst retrospective at the Tate Modern, apparently the most popular solo exhibition in the Tate’s history. (That show was set to travel to the troubled Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, but plans to bring it to California have since been on hold.)
