Soon, Chelsea is going to be one, big Googleplex. The search behemoth is close to signing a 360,000 square-foot lease at 85 10th Ave for space that wasn’t even listed as on the market.
The New York Post reports that Google is leasing a sizable chunk of the building between 15th and 16th streets. But Larry Page and crew apparently conducted some wizardry to get their hands on the space. “The hush-hush talks are so secret that some major players at CBRE, which is said to be working both sides, had not heard about it,” the paper writes.
Google owns nearby 111 Eighth Ave., but was getting antsy that it has tenants with long-term leases in the building. The Post says GOOG tried nudging companies like Nike to move elsewhere, but was unsuccessful.
If this fails, we hear there’s plenty of space in the new World Trade Center, Google!
