Curator Uta Meta Bauer has been appointed the founding director of the Center for Contemporary Art, Singapore at Nanyang Technological University. She comes to the CCA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she was an associate professor of visual art, or a “visual art don,” as Channel NewsAsia identifies her. Artforum, which tipped us off to the news, notes that at the school she was the “the founding director of the program in art, culture, and technology, and the director of [its] visual arts program.”
Ms. Bauer has held positions and organized shows at a wide variety of international institutions over the past 25 years. She served as artistic director of the third edition of the Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, in 2004, and was a member of the curatorial team for Documenta 11, which was overseen by Okwui Enwezor in 2002.
