In an effort to circumvent the pesky FDA, a company called ChromaDex is hard at work on a “caffeine-related ingredient” that will provide a buzz that’s spread over a longer period of time than the one you get from normal caffeine.
The FDA has been cracking down on all of the ridiculously caffeinated products on offer recently, Fast Co. Exist reports, and ChromaDex’s Purenergy would “offer the same energy boost as traditional caffeine in significantly lower quantities, circumventing any future FDA caffeine limits for products.”
So don’t get too excited by the prospect of over-the-counter liquid Adderall; the product seems to be more about optimizing caffeine intake than cultivating that stress-inducing cracked-out feeling that accompanies too much coffee.
The product also reduces blood pressure, cancelling out caffeine’s negative side effects like anxiety and hypertension, ChromaDex CEO Frank Jaksch Jr. swears. What could possibly go wrong? It’s only a matter of time before a “My Strange Addiction” episode features someone addicted to Purenergy enemas.
