Environmental activists opposed to fracking in upstate New York have never been shy about enlisting celebrities–Sean Lennon and Yoko Ono even have a song on the topic–and now former ‘N Sync heartthrob Lance Bass is joining the cause.

Americans Against Fracking is trying to up the pressure on New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo with video pleas from the ‘N Sync star, as well as actresses Marisa Tomei,¬†Hayden Panettiere and Julie Bowen, among others.

“What the frack, Governor Cuomo?” asks Mr. Bass in his effort, stressing the phonetic similarity of the word “frack” to a certain swear word. “Fracking makes climate change worse. So please, make fracking illegal today.”

Mr. Cuomo is often criticized by advocates on both the left and the right sides of the issue of hydraulic fracturing, a natural gas extraction process often called “fracking.” While environmentalists want an outright ban, business advocates have been calling on him to approve the drilling, which they say will create much-needed jobs in the state. The Cuomo administration, meanwhile has delayed making a final decision, calling for more studies and analysis of the health effects before proceeding one way or the other.

In videos released today, the various celebrities nevertheless come down decisively on the anti-fracking side of the equation.
