Leslie Fritz Gallery will close its doors a year after moving to the Lower East Side, according to an e-mail sent yesterday evening. Originally opened as Renwick Gallery in Soho in 2007, the gallery relocated to 44 Hester Street last November and grew its roster to represent seven artists: Andy Boot, Robin Bruch, Talia Chetrit, Meredith Danluck, Keith Farquhar, Ilja Karilampi and Caitlin Keogh.
“We send our most special thanks to each and every artist we have worked with for the vision, intellect, vitality, humor, fierceness, and fun they have all contributed, making the gallery what it is today,” stated the announcement. While the current show, a selection of paintings and works on paper by Robin Bruch, will close on Nov. 10, the e-mail indicated that the space will remain open to visitors through the end of the month. Gallery staff did not immediately return requests for further comment. The announcement ended a with link to Walter Cronkite delivering his signature sign-off: “And that’s the way it is.”
