We know that HBO takes its merch tie-ins very seriously, so expect a bunch of…we don’t know, Hodor mugs? Stuffed direwolves? (Anatomically correct) Lannister barbies? Or, ooh, what about one of those foam hands, but instead of being oversized they have little fingers?
Let’s not lose perspective, though: It might be fun to share your love for Game of Thrones in the privacy of your own home, with a couple friends, but good luck not freaking out when it becomes impossible to silence a room full of 7,000 drunk nerds. It’s going to be like that Mob Wives premiere all over again.
Barclays seems an odd choice of venue, though Game of Thrones has been making a concerted effort to appeal to a broader base of fans than just pasty losers, as evidenced by a new rap album HBO is releasing with several big name rapper (Big Boi, Common, Daddy Yankee) called Catch the Throne. A sample lyric:
tellin’ whoever messin’ with me
I can bring you that Khaleesi heat
Use my King, knack for words, as an actual sword
I can decapitate a rapper…
According to The Wall Street Journal:
The goal is to reach out to the show’s urban, “multicultural” audience, a demographic that includes African-Americans and Latinos, and help capture more viewers and expand the premium cable channel’s subscriber base.
Or, it’s just another excuse to make a nerdcore album without having to give MC Chris a shout-out.
Here’s the Big Boi song. It sounds like something from Chozen.
