Piper Kerman

Piper Kerman

Orange is the New Black, the fictional version of Piper Kerman’s prison experience, has captivated millions of Netflix users, but the real version of life in a women’s jail may be even more harrowing. In a panel discussion called “Sentenced to Change with Piper Kerman,” the author will be joined by activist Stacey McGruder (Sisters That Been There), Vivian Nixon, the executive director of the College and Community Fellowship at CUNY, and Tina Reynolds, the founder of Women on the Rise Telling Her Story (WORTH) for a discussion of the issues facing women behind bars. Brooklyn Museum, Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Auditorium, third floor, 200 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn, 718-638-5000, 3:30 p.m., free with museum admission
