Top Menendez staffer joining Senate Democratic majority office

A U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez deputy chief of staff is preparing to join the ranks of New Jersey’s Senate majority office, state Democrats announced Friday.

Karin Elkis will serve as the chief of staff to the Senate Democratic caucus. Elkis worked as an aide to three U.S. senators during her 31-year career and as Menendez’s state director in 2012.

“Karin brings a wealth of experience and accomplishment that will serve the Senate and the state of New Jersey,” said Senate President Steve Sweeney in a statement.

“She has gained the trust and respect of everyone she has worked with, which speaks to her professionalism and integrity,” he said. “I am proud to have her on our team.”

Elkis, of Haddonfield, worked with former U.S. Sens. Jon Corzine and Frank Lautenberg.

State Democrats did not indicate when Elkis would officially begin work under the Golden Dome.
