Frederick Janka, the associate director of Long Island City’s SculptureCenter, is heading West! Mr. Janka has been hired by California’s Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara to be its new director of development.

“I was born in Santa Barbara and have followed the institution…for some time,” Mr. Janka told Gallerist in an email. “I have also been close to Executive Director and Chief Curator Miki Garcia, and several trustees, for many years. Miki and the board have some exciting plans for the future of the institution and it’s a truly ambitious and exciting challenge. Plus Santa Barbara is basically paradise, how could I say no to an opportunity to live there again?”

Before coming to SculptureCenter in December of 2010, Mr. Janka had worked for the New Art Dealers Alliance, New York’s John Connelly Presents and Mexico City’s Nina Menocal gallery, and organized shows in the U.S. and Mexico.
