Mayor Bill de Blasio canceled his public schedule this evening after learning that a suspect has been identified in the stabbings of two Brooklyn children, a source close to the mayor’s office told the Observer.

The source said a DNA match had been found for the suspect who stabbed to death a 6-year-old boy and badly wounded a 7-year-old girl in East New York. A press conference has been called at 7:45 p.m. with NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton at One Police Plaza.

Mr. de Blasio was scheduled to deliver remarks at Cooper Union, a Jennifer Lopez concert in the Bronx and a Janelle Monae concert in Brooklyn.

Mr. de Blasio’s office did not immediately return a request for comment.
