The Morgan, which has spent the last few years amping up its drawings and prints department, announced today that collector Eugene V. Thaw will endow a curatorial position in the department. Jennifer Tonkovich will be the first to hold the position, which will be named the Eugene and Clare Thaw Curator of Drawings and Prints. She joined the drawings department in 1998.
Mr. Thaw, a life trustee at the Morgan, has donated some 400 drawings from his private collection to the museum since 1975. In a statement, Ms. Tonkovich said, “It has been the great good fortune of my career to work closely with Gene Thaw, whom I admire tremendously as a collector and connoisseur. I have learned so much from him and from working with his exceptional and wide ranging collections. I am deeply honored to be the inaugural Thaw Curator.”
