CFDA members and fashion fans gathered at the New Museum last night to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Fashion Targets Breast Cancer, the charitable organization founded by the CFDA.
On hand to lead the festivities were CFDA chief executive officer Steven Kolb, former president and designer Stan Herman and the initiative’s campaign spokesperson Maria Sharapova, at her last fashion outing before next week’s US Open. Clad in a pale pink Marc Jacobs dress and Porsche Design handbag (Porsche sponsored the event), Sharapova happily greeted and posed with guests, who included Betsey Johnson, Jennifer Fisher, Danielle Snyder and Jodie Snyder Morel of Dannijo, and Monica Botkier of newly re-invented accessories line Botkier New York.
Mr Kolb was particularly sentimental at feting 20 years of hard work in raising awareness of this disease and others. “Since the formation of the CFDA, we’ve raised money for a number of organizations, which makes me very proud,” said Mr Kolb. “Everyone thinks fashion is so vain and focused on the outside, but it’s a caring and wonderful industry and this campaign came from a caring place.”
