Twitch.tv users probably weren’t expecting to see one of their video games reenacted in real life. Yesterday, a SWAT team swarmed a Littleton office building after a prankster called in a fake bomb threat — and it was all captured on camera.
9News reports that the FBI is now investigating the so-called swatting incident in the Denver suburb. A jerk allegedly called 9-1-1 and reported that a man had killed his coworkers and littered the scene with bombs. They busted into the office and found a gamer playing Counterstrike.
The video broadcasted on Twitch shows the man being forced to the ground while members of the SWAT team wield massive guns. (You can watch the downright dramatic scene below.) The man, who goes by Kootra online, was briefly detained but later released when it was clear that he was a victim of a sick hoax.
In a statement, Littleton police were not amused:
Fortunately there were no injuries today, but a massive law enforcement response wastes resources and greatly increases the chances of innocent people being injured or killed. If the investigation determines that today’s incident was a hoax, those involved will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Swatting is an illegal trick and if the caller is found, they could face federal prosecution.
