NJ’s largest union of nurses and healthcare workers , the Health Professionals and Allied Employees (HPAE), announced endorsements today for Roy Cho for Congress in the 5th Congressional district and Jim Tedesco for Bergen County Executive.
“Everyday, nurses and health professionals work hard to provide quality care for their patients and they need elected officials both locally and in Washington D.C. who will work just as hard to protect and put care first,” said Ann Twomey, president of the 12,000 member union. “As healthcare undergoes rapid change, our patients encounter a confusing system that doesn’t always put their needs first. They need advocates like Roy Cho and Jim Tedesco who will.”work tirelessly to not only ensure that our health care system works, but that the men and women at the front lines of public health have the support they need to do their jobs.”
HPAE members also said that the future of Bergen Regional Medical Center was a key factor in their endorsement of Jim Tedesco for County Executive.
“As the private lease at BRMC comes to a close, HPAE and other advocates want a County Executive committed to securing our hospital’s future for our community, not for the profits of the owners,” said Jeff Peck, an RN and president of the HPAE local union at Bergen Regional Medical Center. “Privatization has been profitable for a few, but far too expensive for patients, healthcare workers and taxpayers.”
HPAE represents more than 1500 nurses and other health professionals living and working in Bergen County and the 5th Congressional district.
