Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-3) issued a statement in response to the Federal District Court’s decision to grant the temporary injunction.

“This decision is disappointing but it is temporary,” Sweeney said. “We continue to believe that New Jersey has the right to allow sports betting in the state and we will keep up the fight in court.

“Sports betting could be an economic boost to the gaming industry and to the racetracks at a critical time, creating jobs and generating economic activity for years to come. It could help stabilize Atlantic City’s casinos and help revive horseracing in the state. It could also position New Jersey to be a leader in a new sector of the gaming industry. Sports betting could be an important part of the state’s future.”
