Insiders howled Monday night at Nick Sacco’s mayoral campaign kickoff when an unlikely ally took the stage amid protests against the incumbent and personally offered gold-plated bullhorn backup to the North Bergen power player.
It was state Senator Brian P. Stack (D-33), who punctured the upper Sacco-sphere at Schuetzen Park with his commitment to deliver troops to the neighboring town in time for the May election.
At least one source in the room told PolitickerNJ that it was the most animated Stack has been at a podium in six years.
Of course, Stack and Sacco have not always gotten along, and in the first decade of the millennium and into 2013 warred openly across the borders of their North Hudson towns.
They made up in 2013 when they agreed to avert civil war in Hudson, punctuated last year when they both simultaneously endorsed incumbent Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise. Apparently, Stack doesn’t feel his public display of affection for Sacco these past two years has been sufficient and on Monday elevated the oratory to new heights.
