The Communication Workers of America (CWA) has teamed with other labor unions to petition the U.S. Supreme Court to hear a case on pension funding.
The petition—filed along with NJEA, PFANJ, IFPTE, PBA, FOP and AFT—comes in response to the June decision made the by N.J. Supreme court upholding Governor Chris Christie’s pension fund changes.
The petition states: “Governor Christie announced that for the State fiscal year ending June 30, 2015 (“FY2015”), he would contribute only $681 million to the pension systems rather than the $2.25 billion contractually required…”
It continues: “At issue in this case are the rights of participants in the New Jersey public employee pension systems… Each system is funded by contributions from employees and employers, including the State.”
