The Alliance for Retired Americans today announced its endorsement of incumbent U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross (D-1).
Norcross is running for re-election in the June 7th Democratic Primary against challenger Alex Law.
“The Alliance for Retired Americans is proud to announce their endorsement of Donald Norcross for Congress in New Jerseys First Congressional District, citing his strong commitment to improving the quality of life for older Americans. His leadership on issues such as preserving and protecting Social Security and Medicare from privatization and benefit cuts ensures these programs will be around for current and future generations,” said Executive Director Rich Fiesta.
The Alliance for Retired Americans represents more than 4.3 million retirees, older Americans, and community activists, including more than 134,000 members in New Jersey.
“Last year, during his first term in Congress, he received a score of 100% in the Alliance’s Congressional Voting Record,” Fiesta continued,” In addition, our members support his candidacy because of his belief in the need to provide more affordable health care for older Americans, as well as the need for stronger retirement and pension security, and quality long term care.”
As a member of Congress, Norcross pledged to protect Social Security and Medicare programs that seniors have worked hard to fund.
“When I hear people talk about privatizing Social Security, I can’t help but shake my head,” Norcross said, “We should be working to fix these critical programs, not tear them apart. That’s why I’m fighting for higher cost of living adjustments, to give our seniors a much overdue boost and ensure they have peace of mind in their retirement years.”
The Alliance for Retired Americans is joined by the CWA, NJEA, and Sierra Club in endorsing establishment favorite Norcross.
