Michael Murphy of Impact NJ won’t run for governor next year, to the consternation of handfuls of insiders who had prayed he would jump into the race to confuse voters with the presence of two Murphys in the Democratic Primary contest.
Former U.S. Ambassador to Germany Phil Murphy earlier this month formally announced his intention to run for governor. But Michael (no relation) Murphy said he has no plans to confound primary voters with a second Murphy candidacy.
“The only new title I plan to hold is the office of grandfather,” Michael Murphy – an unsuccessful 1997 Democratic candidate for governor – told PolitickerNJ.
Both of his daughters are expecting their first babies eight days apart in early September.
