TRENTON – Trouble.
That’s the word in the halls of the statehouse in and among those throngs of secondary colored T-shirts adding to the jaundiced cast of these liver-spotted environs.
More than a few handfuls of lawmakers in the Democratic caucus on the assembly side are wondering aloud what’s the rush, and say the Transportation Trust Fund (TTF) bill can wait until Thursday.
Another source said the wrinkle is the chamber’s insistence on attaining a veto proof override, and that the votes just aren’t there right now in the lower house.
As Assembly and Senate leadership meet with Governor Chris Christie, the same source said the front office is playing footsy with Democrats: if they move the pen/ben bill, good luck summoning the votes for a gas tax.
