With swimsuit season ahead, serums are definitively not just for your face anymore.

Serums, used after cleansing but before moisturizing, represent a massive product category of targeted treatment aimed at hydrating, or minimizing fine lines on our faces. But for all the time (and money) we spend on our faces, many of us forget we have skin everywhere else. Skin, which also ages and needs nourishment and hydration.

Alas, Memorial Day weekend has come and gone, and swimsuit season has arrived, evidenced by bikinis lining the racks. Razors, self-tanners, and SPFs crowd the shelves. One more thing to add to your summer-bod-preparedness checklist? Body serums.

This summer, go ahead and treat yourself to an upgrade from last year’s lotion. Housed in minimalist packaging—(many are in dark glass bottles to protect the potency of the ingredients inside)—these rich serums do so much more than simply moisturize. They come chock full of high-end ingredients comparable to those contained in our best facial skin care products, a fact which separates them immensely from your average body lotion. Natural, botanical ingredients plump the skin and give it a healthy natural glow. Many of these products are blends of potent botanicals, which mean they come with serious aromatherapy benefits. Body serums are ideal for application after the shower, as damp skin is primed to absorb their ingredients, but these products can also be used in place of lotion at any time!

Since we can all agree that serums are definitively not just for your face anymore, here are the six you need to try.

deMamiel, Revitalising Body Serum, $87

Every product in this UK-based line is infused with founder Annee deMamiel’s knowledge of Chinese medicine and aromatherapy. Her body serum is a woodsy, floral, citrus blend. The scent includes notes of sandalwood, lemon, orange, and rose. Baobab and Kukui seed oils are antioxidant, seabuckthorn is healing, and prickly pear seed and marula oils are rich hydrators. Making this pick especially perfect for summer is the subtle golden glimmer it leaves behind.

Pumpkin seed oil, which contains naturally occurring salicylic acid, gently exfoliates the skin. Finally, supercritical seabuckthorn oil (extracted vis–à–vis a special process to maintain the integrity of the ingredient and its benefits) nourishes and conditions.

Cucumber seed oil, another highlighted component of this formulation, is a powerhouse unto itself. It is rich in Omega-6 fatty acids, Vitamins B1 and C, detoxifies, and wards off free radicals, especially important when the sun is out in full-force. Made to help tone the skin, this serum helps minimize and prevent stretch marks and premature wrinkles.

Kahina products center around Moroccan argan oil, which is harvested by the Berber women who live in the country’s argan forest. The brand’s body serum contains high concentrations of its hero ingredient, which boasts multiple skin benefits. It is known to improve skin’s elasticity and texture, while soothing redness. Evoking the country’s “cultural capital,” Rose and orange blossoms meet patchouli, vetiver, ylang ylang and even clove, for a stress-melting aromatherapeutic experience. Watermelon, sunflower, olive and coconut oils hydrate and moisturize the skin. A pump dispenser makes it even easier to apply.
