Piscopo Reaching out to County Party GOP Chairs Concerning 2017 Gov Run

Joe Piscopo, the Jersey guy comedian who once lampooned everyone from Frank Sinatra to Jackie Gleason on Saturday Night Live, is calling Republican county chairs to gauge their interest in a 2017 run for New Jersey governor.

There’s no evidence that he led off his call by rapping, “Norton, Norton, N-N-N-N-N-N-Norton!”

A source this morning told PolitickerNJ that Piscopo – now a radio show host – worked the phones over the weekend in an attempt to make contact with those power centers that may or may not love the idea of a funny man trying to change the game in the aftermath of tough guy Governor Chris Christie.

PolitickerNJ first wrote about Piscopo’s interest here.

If he were to get in, he would have nearly a full SNL cast of rivals, including Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli and businessman Joe Rullo, who have already announced their candidacies; in addition to LG Kim Guadagno and Nutley Commissioner Steve Rogers, who are likely to enter the contest, among others.
