Teamsters Back Murphy for NJ Governor

Teamsters Joint Council 73, representing more than 55,000 workers across 15 locals statewide, endorsed Phil Murphy to be the next Governor of New Jersey, Joint Council President Al Rispoli announced today.

“The Teamsters are proud to support Phil Murphy and endorse his vision of a New Jersey that will honor hard-working families, raise wages and workplace protections, and ensure a secure retirement and future for all New Jerseyans,” said Rispoli. “We need real leadership that brings in new ideas that will help working families get ahead. We will work hard to see that Phil is elected.”

Rispoli said Murphy’s support for enacting strong equal pay laws and earned sick leave protections for all workers, and creating a child-and-dependent care tax credit for middle class and working families weighed heavily in the Teamsters’ decision.

“Phil is by far the best candidate for the times New Jersey’s working families face,” said Rispoli.

“I thank the Teamsters for their support and look forward to working together to strengthen and lift up our working families to grow our middle class,” said Murphy. “Labor holds an important seat at the economic table, as our middle class was created through their work. We cannot forget that. New Jersey works best when New Jersey works together.”
