“Lebanon was life changing,” said Anthony Bourdain at lunch last week, sitting next to us, speaking softly. He had just gotten back from filming the next season of his globe-hopping, tapas-tasting extravaganza of a television show, Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, in the war-torn city of Beirut. It’s a place where Mr. Bourdain has some history. In 2006, he needed a military escort in Lebanon to escape the start of a bloody month-long surge between Israeli and Hezbollah forces. His crew nearly got shot, but it did snag him an Emmy nomination.
