Gizmodo Pivots From Gadgets to Design

Gizmodo, Gawker media’s tech blog, is getting a new editor and a new focus. Geoff Manaugh, a former senior editor at Dwell Magazine and contributing editor at Wired UK, will take over at Gizmodo. Mr. Manaugh will bring BLDGBLOG, his architecture and design website, along with him.

“We’ve hired Geoff Manaugh, one of the very coolest writers on design and technology, as EIC,” Gawker owner Nick Denton told us. “He’s a big deal in his field. The only non-architect to lecture at Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture.” Read More

Nicole Cliffe is Leaving The Hairpin to Start New Site

Nicole Cliffe, the books editor at The Hairpin, is leaving The Awl network’s site to start her own. Ms. Cliffe is partnering with Mallory Ortberg, who is a familiar name over at The Hairpin and has contriubuted to Gawker, The Atlantic and The Gloss. The new site will launch on July 1.

“Where am I going? Well, on July 1st, Mallory Ortberg and I are launching our own site,” Ms. Cliff wrote, in her goodbye post on The Hairpin late this morning. “You’ll hear more about it later. Leaning in, following your dreams, etc.”  Read More

NYU Hyperlocal Blog Partners With New York And Hops On The L Train

Remember when hyperlocal blogs were the future of news? Well, although The New York Times ended their partnership with New York University’s hyperlocal East Village blog after two and a half years, New York magazine is picking up the slack—and changing the name to something catchier, reports Nieman Lab’s Adrienne LaFrance.

Later this spring, the  blog will relaunch under New York’s umbrella as Bedford + Bowery, and, as the new name suggests, will take the L train to cover Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Bushwick, as well as the East Village and the Lower East Side. So basically, they will cover the intersection of New York mag readers and NYU students. Read More

Paris Review Web Editor to Take Iowa by Force
