B.J. Novak Signs A Seven Figure Two Book Deal With Knopf

B.J. Novak, the actor, comedian and writer who became known for playing Ryan Howard on The Office, has signed a seven-figure, two book deal with Knopf, The New York Times reports. The first of the two books, which is fiction, is slated for a 2014 pub date.

“The closest analogy for me is Woody Allen,” Mr. Novak’s agent, Richard Abate, described the story collection. “Underneath these stories is a real intellectual curiosity. I think their appeal is that they’re incredibly accessible and comic, but at the same time they’re exploring the modern condition.” Read More

Writer Jen Doll Signs With Riverhead

Jen Doll, a senior writer at The Atlantic Wire, signed a deal with Riverhead  for a memoir about being a frequent wedding guest.

Ms. Doll’s agent, Ryan Fischer-Harbage, sent out the proposal during the Hurricane and sold it to Alexandra Cardia at the Penguin literary imprint  just before Thanksgiving, Ms. Doll told us.  Read More

Jesmyn Ward, National Book Award Winner, Gets Another Book Deal

Will Bois Sauvage, the fictional Mississippi town created by the novelist Jesmyn Ward, one day reach the status of William Faulkner’s Yoknapatawpha County? Time will tell, but Ms. Ward has signed a deal with Bloomsbury for a third novel set in the Gulf Coast hamlet of her invention. Her most recent book, Salvage the Bones, won the 2011 National Book Award for fiction. Read More

Adbusters Publisher Kalle Lasn to Write an Occupy Wall Street 'Textbook of the Future'

Kalle Lasn, the publisher of Adbusters magazine who was recently profiled in The New Yorker, has gotten a book deal with independent publisher Seven Stories.
