Kim Stolz and Amanda Leigh Dunn, co-owners of The Dalloway

Upstairs, Downstairs: The Dalloway is New York’s Fanciest ‘Lesbian Implied’ Bar/Restaurant

“We’ve met before,” purred Kim Stolz, an impish grin on her face. The Transom was standing in a dark corner with the most famous lesbian to come out, as it were, of America’s Next Top Model. We were at the launch party for  The Dalloway, a bar/restaurant Ms. Stolz co-owns with fellow reality heroine Amanda Leigh Dunn, of The Real L-Word fame..

The Transom couldn’t recall previously meeting Ms. Stolz , though we remembered her infamous kiss with a curious competitor during Cycle 5 of ANTM, as well as her time as a VJ and correspondent on MTV News. Even in her new role as Citigroup vice president and part owner of the hottest lesbian spot to hit New York in decades, she was unmistakable.

“I feel like the New York lesbian scene was kind of different, more diverse when I was growing up,” said the Manhattan native. “But recently it’s been confined to dive bars and clubby atmospheres.” Read More

Ringing Home the Holiday Violence with Brad Pitt at Killing Them Softly Premiere

Last night the Cinema Society and Men’s Health presented Brad Pitt‘s latest feature (besides those Chanel ads), a dark shoot-em-up called Killing Them Softly. The after party, held at No. 8, was jammed back full of celebs, though Mr. Pitt, Harvey Weinstein, Jack McBrayer, and Amy Adams remained secluded from the whole ordeal by two large security guards who literally linked arms to stop the crush of people from trying to wiggle their way into the VIP area. Domingo Zapata’s New Collection Books a Room at The Bowery Hotel

“I turned the penthouse of The Bowery in to my studio … I have a studios in Paris and L.A., so I go back and forth,” Domingo Zapata said as he moved intimately among a crowd of familiar faces. If upstairs was the studio, then the second floor of the hotel was his gallery space. Large canvases of his art, all paying homage to American pop culture, were on display—works exhibiting a distinctly playful nature, exemplified best by a painting of Superman flashing a peace sign, proclaiming he was available for hire.

“I love sharing my work with my friends. It’s intense, but good.”

With friends like his—a bevy of beautiful muses including the likes of Kim KardashianEva Longoria, Lindsay Lohan and attendee Sofia Vergara—he’s not exactly lacking in inspiration.  Read More

Regs Need Not Apply: The Launch of the “Eccentrics Issue” of Vs. Magazine

“The clothing’s just the sprinkles on top.” So said tattoo artist Ami James, and it could have been the motto for the evening, especially when the chocolate-sprinkled cupcakes appeared later on, one last treat for a collection of self-proclaimed oddballs, from Michael Stipe to Bono’s wife, Irish business woman Ali Hewson, to a late entry looking like the boy next door, Josh Hartnett.

They were gathered last night for the launch of the “Eccentrics Issue” of Vs. Magazine, which coincided with the official opening—or, anyway, the celebrity opening—of Paul Gerard’s Exchange Alley, the two events hosted by brunette beauties Liv Tyler, whose face in close-up stares from the cover of the new Vs., and Helena Christensen, who took the photo. Tony Kushner and Edward Albee Go Long at PEN Literary Gala

Stars of literary fiction like Zadie Smith, Junot Diaz, and Chad Harbach turned out at the PEN American Center Gala Tuesday night but, alas, with a playwright, a journalist, and a publisher receiving honors, it was but another occasion for American novelists to go unrecognized by an organization that historically validates their metier.

While guests circled the dinosaurs in the lobby of the American Museum of Natural History, The Observer asked Jeffrey Eugenides and Gary Shteyngart what they made of their colleagues’ universal snub from the Pulitzer board last month. Read More

Ina Garten Doesn’t Do Anything Before Checking with Ousted Town & Country Editor Stephen Drucker

The well-fed friends of Ina Garten convened in the Hamptons on Saturday for a “Barefoot Under The Stars” fundraiser for the conservationist Group for the East End. (Nevermind that it was more like “In Heels Under A White Tent Indistinguishable From The Miserable Cloud Cover”.) Among them were the Ina Industrial Complex, i.e. power couple Stephen Drucker and Read More

Schumer, Weiner and Adams Party with Brooklyn Democrats [Video]

Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats‘s annual fund-raising dinner drew Senator Schumer, Rep. Anthony Weiner, State Senator Eric Adams and others.

Some highlights:

An unintentionally funny moment, during Chuck Schumer’s remarks. After acknowledging some guests in the audience, he said, “I think I’m the third longest member – third longest?” and then corrected himself. “Third-longest Read More
