The Beatrice Inn: Still boarded up!

The Beatrice Inn Opening Delayed With Construction, Liquor License Issues

We were so excited about the new incarnation of The Beatrice Inn: the egalitarian, OpenTable.com, anti-smoking restaurant that will take the place of its former celebrity drug-fueled dance haunt, which shuttered three years ago. Especially since Graydon Carter, along with former Waverly Inn partners Brett Rasinski and Emil Warda, had promised that this time, there would be no Paul Sevigny.

In multiple interviews, Mr. Carter placed the opening of the new Waverly at the end of May. Yet anyone who has walked by 285 West 12th St. recently can see for themselves that the Beatrice is still under heavy construction. Another minor hiccup: they still don’t have their liquor license. Update: Manhattan Restaurant Park Avenue Autumn Returns Stolen Saddam Hussein Plates; Art Group Responds

Update: The official response of Creative Time–the non-profit art organization which worked with Park Avenue Autumn on the exhibition involving the stolen plates– as well as that of the U.S. District Attorney’s office, can be found at the bottom of the post.

In a story that raises more questions than it answers, stolen dinner plates and several salad plates originally belonging to Saddam Hussein were returned to the Republic of Iraq by the United States government after they were illegally exported out of the country and sold on Ebay. Read More
