Dovere to Politico

After five years at City Hall News, Edward-Isaac Dovere is leaving to take a job at Politico. His new title will be breaking news editor, a new position for the Washington-based outlet.

The president and CEO of the company that publishes City Hall News, Tom Allon, told me Dovere "joins a long line of distinguished journalists who have started their careers at Manhattan Media" including Jim Rutenberg, Andrew Jacobs and James McKinley.

Dovere was, for many, the face of that publication, writing (at length!) about, for example, the Working Families Party and previewing the would-be Senate candidacy of Steve Israel.

But Allon said his outlet is already planning to "expand our coverage of city and state politics" with new initiatives in the coming weeks and months.

Update: Dovere emails his contacts, saying, "We’ve broken news, gained an increasingly large following, and won our fair share of awards. And though I know I’ve personally caused quite a bit of trouble for a number of the people getting this email, I’ve enjoyed working with all of you."

Andy Jacobs, the Times reporter who covered Cory Booker and Manhattan night clubs, is in Beijing. Today, his China-based dateline is his first. "I’m going to be in the bureau there," said Mr. Jacobs to Media Mob, shortly before he left. "It’s not a permanent thing." He used to live in China where he taught English, and, before that, studied Mandarin at NYU. "I’m still pretty good. It’s one of those languages that I was there long enough that I got it imprinted in my head."

It's getting crowded over there, it seems to us! Which is something we'll be looking into.
