Andy Frankenberger. Photo by Andy Frankenberger

Meet Andy Frankenberger: Duke grad, former JPMorgan and BNP Parisbas derivatives trader, 2011 World Poker Tour player of the year. Also, a Russian speaker who recorded a perfect score on his math SAT, and amateur photog.

A little more about Andy:

A few years ago, Frankenberger was nowhere near a poker player. He always enjoyed the game and played sporadically online in low buy-in tournaments, but he preferred to spend his effort on the highly profitable decisions during his day job instead of getting encompassed in the world of poker. In 2008, he played in a tournament simply as a way to try to get in good with his new boss. The tournament was only open to traders, and putting on a respectable showing in the event was extremely valuable for Frankenberger, who not only believed it was a way to make a big impression on his new superior but also show his colleagues he had a little game. Bragging rights on Wall Street are invaluable.

Anyway, we caught wind this afternoon that Mr. Frankenberger won the pot limit hold 'em tournament at this year's World Series of Poker, defeating Phil Ivey to capture a $446,000 prize. We went searching for a photo and lo, we didn't have to look far, for Mr. Frankenberger himself had uploaded a head shot to his Wikipedia page.

Not that there's any crime in that. Besides, if you'd been named one of Woman Poker Player magazine's 10 hottest men in poker for 2011, wouldn't you want the world to know?
