Suspect in Shooting of Officer Kevin Brennan Wanted in First Homicide of 2012

Luis Ortiz, who allegedly shot N.Y.P.D. officer Kevin Brennan Tuesday night, was already a suspect in the first homicide of 2012. On Wednesday police officials said Mr. Ortiz, age 21, had been sought for questioning in the New Year’s Day shooting  of a 34-year-old man. Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly was cradling in his hands a plastic container holding a .22 slug that had just been extracted out of the base of the skull of Officer Kevin Brennan, the second member of his department to be shot in the head while in the line of duty in the past two months.

City Seeks Hotel for Former Psych Hospital

The city’s Economic Development Corporation is seeking bidders to turn the Bellevue Psychiatric Building on the East Side into a hotel.
