The latest blow stuck by Hurricane Sandy? Say goodbye to decorum, to civility, to gentility. We're not even a full 24 hours into the crisis and the Yale Club of New York City has suspended its dress code.

The Yale Daily News reports that earlier today, VP Linda Lorimer emailed the Eli community and announced that any students stranded at Grand Central are now welcome in the main lounge and grill room, and they've also got rooms for rent. (Though that's not gonna be free, kiddos.) For anyone concerned that his Williamsburg-friendly hipster weekend-wear might result in his being turned away at the door, fear not:

Lorimer added that the “dress code is not in effect at this time.”

Until this summer, the Yale Club did not even allow denim inside its hallowed premises (though it's typically limited to the more casual rooms and still must be “neat, clean, and in good repair”).

The rest of you lot--Harvard snobs, UPenn riffraff, Princeton unfortunates--are on your own.

Via Dealbook's Kevin Roose: "More hurricane news: Goldman Sachs told employees they can dress casually on Monday as long as they 'exercise good judgment.'" Also, no, they will not let you into their hurricane perperation practices, which are perfectly within regulatory compliance: "A Goldman spokesman declined to detail the bank’s hurricane preparations, but said that the bank had 'plans in place to ensure the safety of our people and the ongoing operation of our business.'" Last week, the Gray Lady's fashion-centric section informed us that girls these days are all wearing dresses. Big, floppy, colorful dresses, popping up all over Rockaway!

This week, they were a bit more specific about people wearing things in various places. Let's investigate!

WHAT TO WEAR TO: Continental (five shots, five dollars, people!)

An unironic mélange of ripped blue jeans, grubby backpacks, baseball hats and sneakers.

“A blazer, a solid button-down or a solid sweater.” For women, shoes are key. “Minimum five-inch heel,” he said. “Christians are our favorite,” he added, referring not to the faithful but to Christian Louboutin, the designer known for his red soles. Jimmy Choo and Christian Dior are also welcome.

Crazy stripes on his shirt to draw attention to himself

A bow tie or, if you have to, go out and buy a $400 pair of sunglasses.

A nice sports coat, a really great flower-print shirt underneath, maybe a matching pocket square

Ah, OK, so it's what's inside that counts.

All these club names are confusing! Thankfully, The Times styles goes back to what it does best, and starts making sweeping generalizations about neighborhoods.
