Props to Fox & Friends for finding something to talk about on this slow news day: Downton Abbey, the popular British upstairs/downstairs saga that runs on the (publicly funded) PBS network, might be the best weapon conservatives have in popular culture today!

According to maybe-British person Stuart Varney, the show is a massive blow to the politics of the left-leaning liberals who love it because the characters are rich...and nice. "Downton Abbey poses a threat to the left, does it not, Brian," Ms. Varney asks a thoroughly confused Brian Kilmeade. "The left says we got to hate these people, but popular America watches a show that says 'These people are okay!'"


Gretchen Carlson gets shut down for her suggestion that a)Not everyone in America hates rich people and b)Maybe people are just getting bored with the stupidity of reality TV and want to watch a smart program about people talking about historical events against a pretty backdrop.

"You can say all of that, but you miss the point," smarms Mr. Varney, missing the point. "You could dismiss it as high-class soap opera (Editor's Note: Uh...that's not what Carlson was saying), but that misses the point. The politics of Downton Abbey are important, and it's important that they are popular in America today."

The segment then spirals into one long SPOILER ALERT, so we won't even go there. But hopefully this delusional tirade will convince Rush Limbaugh or someone to start funneling money into PBS in the hopes that all liberals will inadvertently start becoming more conservative and pick up some cute, early 20th century English affectations to boot.

For all their talk about how "confusing" it is for children to see gay characters on television (lest they grow up thinking that was normal), Fox & Friends had no qualms about bringing a very busy Santa Claus all the way down from the North Pole to explain why the liberal media is waging a war against Christmas.

Which just makes you wonder ... who is this shtick for? (Besides Brian Kilmeade, of course.)

You know, I never had a problem being Santa Claus, but there was a time a few years back when suddenly I started showing up at Christmas parties and was told that they were having holiday parties. So therefore, they didn’t need a Santa anymore. And it was about that time, that was the time when I think the Surgeon General said Santa should lay off the cookies and start picking up more carrots and broccoli. I heard Santa in Australia said ‘ha, ha, ha,’ so as not to offend certain gals and Santas in England couldn’t have children on their laps anymore.

Wait what? There is more than one Santa? Each country has a Santa? Forgetting everything else, destroying the childhood fantasy that Kris Kringle is a supernatural being who can visit all the good Christian children in the world in one night is actually MORE blasphemous than having an office "holiday party." Because children don't go to holiday parties. They do, however, listen to Santa Claus when he detonates his own myth on-air with Gretchen Carlson.

And you know what, why does Santa care about going to some drunk, depressing office party? It's a week before Christmas, and you are under-employed as it is. ObamaCare is probably the only kind of insurance you can get. So what are you doing on Fox News? Get to work, Santa!

Discussing why Mitt Romney appears so frequently on the Fox News program Fox and Friends—the subject of a New York Times story yesterday—on MSNBC's Martin Bashir, Mr. Williams said that Governor Romney is comfortable with people who are like him.

"They're like him," he said. "They're white folks who are very much relaxed in their own company."

A former deputy chief of the Boston Globe's D.C. bureau, Mr. Williams's Politico bio states that he is a "telegenic, quick-witted analyst" who examines the "intersection of race and politics."

The video was first flagged by conservative websites the Washington Free Beacon and the late Andrew Breitbart's Big Journalism, which also called attention to liberal leaning jokes Mr. Williams made on Twitter about Governor Romney's wealth.

"This is our MSM. This is Politico. This is why God created Andrew Breitbart," wrote Breitbart.com writer John Nolte.

"POLITICO journalists have a clear and inflexible responsibility to cover politics fairly and free of partisan bias," Politico editors Jim VandeHei and John Harris wrote in a memo to staff last night. "Regrettably, an unacceptable number of Joe Williams's public statements on cable and Twitter have called into question his commitment to this responsibility."
