Just because there is a hurricane out there and you are cooped up inside with 12 jugs of water doesn't mean everything else has stopped. For example, hiring announcements still seem to find their way into our inboxes.

This morning, Yahoo News announced that Beth Fouhy, an AP political reporter, will join Yahoo! News as senior politics and national coverage editor.

“From our first meeting, it was clear Beth would be a perfect fit at Yahoo News,” said Hillary Frey, editor in chief of Yahoo News. “Not only does she bring a wealth of experience, she has great ideas about how to continue to build up the Yahoo News brand and get more great stories in front of our readers. I am thrilled she’ll be part of our New York staff.”

“I’m so excited to be joining Yahoo News and can’t wait to develop distinctive, original stories with a terrific group of reporters and editors. It’s a dream job for me,” Ms. Fouhy said.

Ms. Fouhy was part of the national political team covering the 2012 presidential campaign at the AP, focusing on fund-raising and media. Before joining the Associated Press, Ms. Fouhy worked at CNN for over a decade, where she was an executive producer of itspolitical unit from 1997-2001.

Ms. Fouhy will "play a key role in refining Yahoo News's future plans following the tremendous response to date for the site's 2012 elections coverage." Her first day will be on November 19. Hopefully by then the subways will be running again.

Acclaimed investigative reporter Josh Bernstein is going to Denver to become the Senior Investigative Reporter at KDVR Fox 31, a Fox affiliate.

“They have a huge commitment to building up the investigative team,” said Mr. Bernstein said of his new station. “We will be very involved with several investigations related to the election season,” he said, noting Colorado is a swing state.

Mr. Bernstein was an investigative reporter at The Daily until July, when he was laid off as part of the iPad newspaper’s round of reductions.

Prior to joining The Daily, Mr. Bernstein was a television reporter in Wichita Falls, TX (“I was this Yankee Jewish kid from Great Neck”) and Phoenix. At iPad newspaper, Mr. Bernstein got scoops on the planning behind the September 11 terrorist attacks and the BP Oil Spill.

Mr. Bernstein announced his departure from New York as one does these days, in a Facebook post:

“Time to say goodbye ☹. It has been a fabulous few years back home in NYC, but duty calls and my wonderful wife and I are relocating for work. I’ve accepted a Senior Investigative Reporter gig and I couldn’t be more excited! Details to be released at a later date.

The things I will miss most about NYC: my adorable and loving niece, The Daily and ALL my fabulous colleagues and friends who are truly some of the most talented journalists, editors, writers, producers, designers and developers in the biz, Central Park, jogging the reservoir, my long bike rides and fabulous conversations with Jonathan Tortora, nagging my producer extraordinaire Shalini Sharma, fabulous food, family and friends.”

Here's hoping he keeps up the good work (and avoids altitude sickness) in the Mile High City!

Andrew Cuomo's office just sent out word that they have tapped ace political operative Rodney Capel to be his New York City director of intergovernmental affairs.

"Rodney has a longstanding and impressive career in government, both on the local and national levels," Governor Cuomo said. "His experience makes him particularly suited for this appointment. He will be a great addition to my administration as we work with elected officials from across the state towards a better New York."

Capel's father, Jim, was a longtime aide to Rep. Charlie Rangel, and the younger Capel served as the executive director of the State Democratic Party and worked as an aide to Council Speaker Christine Quinn. He has flirted with running for office himself a few times, taking a look at taking on State Senator Bill Perkins last year and looking to run for that same seat when it was vacated by David Paterson in 2006.

His most recent job was with Mercury Public Affairs.
