Designers are constantly looking for innovative ways to present their collections. From flash mobs to incorporating animals, Fashion Week-pro, Moncler, has earned a fantastic reputation for flashy and mildly ridiculous presentations. This year, for Moncler Grenoble, Wollman Rink became the label's runway.

Expert ice skaters donned designer ski pants and parkas and flung themselves dazzlingly around the rink in a series of choreographed performances. Elizabeth Hurley and Margherita Maccapani Missoni were notably in attendance, braving the bitter cold in their most glamorous outerwear. For those still freezing, Moncler served rum-spiked hot chocolate, mulled wine and hard cider.

"Those look like testicles!" remarked one shivering show-goer, pointing to roasted chestnuts.

"I'll have a few of the ones in the middle," chirped socialite Liliana Cavendish, unperturbed.

The show was extraordinary: the lights, the production-- it all worked! But with synchronized pinwheels, camel spins, and double Salchows-- it was nearly impossible to see those fabulous Moncler outfits zipping by. But who thinks about clothes during Fashion Week?!

Well, it looks like there will be two rinks south of 14th this season, if not more. Curbed reports that the Standard Hotel is turning its patio into a rink, as well.

The Standard Hotel pulled in its yellow patio furniture for the winter, and you'd better believe that Andre Balazs is not letting that prime space go to waste. After all, he put two nightclubs on the top floor.

Interestingly, this means there will now be two places to ice skate on Washington Street where once there were none. No word yet on whether patrons will be forbidden to drink or wear clothes on the Standard's ice.

But since it's so cool these days, downtown deserves some winter fun of its own. Come this Saturday, there will be one at the recently opened W Downtown Hotel. Located on the fifth-floor terrace bar, the rink not only boasts an exclusive location but also has views unmatched by any of the city's other skating spots, given that the Gwathmey Siegel-designed condo-hotel overlooks the World Trade Center site.

What's better than skating and gazing down on Ground Zero construction? Doing those things whilst tipsy, of course. The terrace bar will be open with a special set of drinks to help keep skaters and guests warm, Jenny Back, sales coordinator for the hotel, told The Observer. And while you're welcome to have your drink on the rocks, no drinking on the ice.

The rink will be open through mid-February. Skate rentals cost $12, but bring your own and hit the ice for free. And skating is open to the public, not just residents and guests, though it is on a first-come, first-served basis, with room for only 15 skaters. Ms. Back said the hotel's phone has been ringing off the hook with inquiries already as word has gotten around, so bundle up and get in line now.

And so, the project that was for a time frozen-in-time will now be frozen for real!
