In Which It Is Affirmed That JFK Is No Place for a Cat

We thought we’d closed the book on Jack the Cat when the feline, lost during a mishap in American Airlines baggage handling, was found after two months and rushed to a vet. The story seemed set for a Disney ending. But sadly, malnutrition and dehydration wore Jack down, and he has died despite intensive care. “Jack has gone over the rainbow bridge,” writes the administrator of the Facebook group that publicized news about the lost cat. Jack the Cat, Facebook-Famous Feline, Has Been Found at JFK

It’s an airport miracle! Jack the Cat, who went missing during baggage handling by American Airlines two months ago, has been found alive.

Search parties were organized via Facebook and American Airlines papered JFK with missing cat fliers; but the chances of finding the cat had started to look slim. “The chances of Jack surviving or being returned readily get minimized each and every day,” one former communications representative for United Airlines told The Observer last week. “It’s a very dangerous place, an airport. Unhappy Jack! American Airlines’ Meowing PR Headache

Don’t worry kitty, they’re coming for you. The search for the fugitive long-haired tabby was still on in Far Rockaway when we checked in with American Airlines this week. “We continue our efforts to search for Jack and we remain hopeful that he will be found,” said Ned Raynolds, a representative for the company, from whose care the cat escaped about six weeks ago in the jungle of J.F.K. International Airport. “We haven’t given up.” Read More

Jack the Cat, missing at JFK.

American Airlines Lost a Cat

A fluffy orange feline, Jack The Cat, was kenneled along with his brother Barry and passed over to baggage handlers on an American Airlines flight 177 from JFK to California on Thursday. After clearing security, owner Karen Pascoe received a call from an American Airlines employee who told her Jack was missing.

After a search turned up nothing, Ms. Pascoe and her family boarded their flight, assured by American Airlines that they would find her cat, contact her again by the next day, and presumably restore the cat to her the way they would any other lost baggage.

Ms. Pascoe said she did not hear from American Airlines until Sunday, 66 hours after the she was informed that Jack was missing. A baggage manager named “Andy” called and said the hunt was still on, although “the last time this happened, it took about a month to find the cat.”  Read More
