One Direction Gets Waxed

Forget performing at the Olympics' closing ceremony, having nearly eleven million Twitter followers or selling out massive concert venues. We argue that One Direction didn’t really achieve international celebrity until this week, when it was announced that the British pop group would have their likenesses displayed at none other than THE Madame Tussauds.

The life-size figures (can we call them “Wax Direction”?) will be on display at Times Square's Madame Tussauds from July 19^th to October 11^th. If you work anywhere in the vicinity of the museum, which is at 43^rd Street and 8^th Ave., we recommend you plan your commute accordingly. (In other words, prepare to haul yourself through hordes of screaming tweenage girls all vying for a glimpse of Harry Styles’s waxy visage).

If you just can’t wait until July 19^th to feast your eyes on the lifelike renditions of your favorite boy band, check out these photos of the sculpting process. And remember, no matter how close you get to Harry Styles—wax or otherwise—he will never, ever follow you back on Twitter.

Wax Museum Enthusiasts to Wait Patiently for Kate Middleton Rendering

Madame Tussauds, London's can't-miss wax museum tourist trap, already houses the waxy visages of Queen Elizabeth, Prince Phillip, Prince Charles, and the young heirs William and Harry. Could the old dame's emporium be missing a certain person? Perhaps the newest member of this motley crew? Ah, yes! Kate Middleton, bride-to-be of Prince William of Wales. How can you have a wax museum without England's pretty pretty princess?

Well, if you want to see a lifeless statue of Kate Middleton you're going to have to wait. A Madame Tussauds rep told Reuters that Kate won't sit for the artists until after the April 29 wedding, and once she does, the meticulous rendering will take four months to complete.

Also, the Reuters article mentions (twice!) that inclusion is contingent on a donation of an authentic Kate Middleton-owned dress. Make it one of your fun poofy ones, Kate! Those are our favorite!
