Rock You Like a Hurricane
Congressman Michael Grimm is rejecting reports suggesting he had sex in the bathroom of a Brooklyn wine bar right before the Washington shutdown began two weeks ago.
Mr. Grimm reportedly spent an unusually long time in the bathroom of The Owl’s Head in Bay Ridge–pegged by the New York Post at 17 minutes–with an unidentified woman. But Mr. Grimm, who is single, flat-out denied the accusation that anything inappropriate occurred.
Republican Congressman Michael Grimm is not a fan of Bill de Blasio’s Hurricane Sandy recovery plan.
Yesterday, Bill de Blasio outlined a plan to use federal Sandy recovery money to fix some of the “greater wrongs” of the city by creating living-wage jobs, affordable housing and community health care sites in areas hard-hit by the storm–aspirations that touch on many of the Democratic mayoral nominee’s campaign themes.
Raging against libertarian-minded presidential hopefuls is normally the territory of Long Island Congressman Pete King, but this morning, Staten Island’s Michael Grimm stepped up to the plate, labeling Kentucky Senator Rand Paul’s comments regarding Hurricane Sandy aid “disgraceful” and “simply moronic.”
On it Goes
Staten Island’s Michael Grimm emerged from obscurity two years ago to win a seat in Congress based in part on his compelling personal narrative. Mr. Grimm is a former Marine and a onetime FBI agent. At a time of national anxiety over global terrorism, he was able to address security issues based on his experience and expertise.
But Mr. Grimm’s clean-cut persona has taken a hit in recent weeks amid reports of fund-raising irregularities that should attract the attention of his onetime colleagues in law enforcement. The allegations, it should be noted, concern not just his campaign’s actions, but Mr. Grimm’s personal contacts, fund-raising methods and slippery business practices.
