The New York Post pulled a story offline after New York Mag called them out on the erroneous report that one-time congressman Anthony Weiner got a new job.

"Disgraced ex-Congressman Anthony Weiner has landed a job after being unemployed for 18 months, his first gig since resigning amid a Twitter sexting scandal," the Post story said, claiming that Mr. Weiner got a part-time gig consulting for Madison Avenue brokerage firm Concept Capital Markets.

Kevin Roose called up Robert E. Moore, the CEO of the brokerage firm, who told the business writer that he had never met Mr. Weiner and had not offered him a job. "Concept Capital Markets has not engaged former congressman Anthony Weiner," Mr. Moore wrote in a memo to his employees this morning.

"The news was all the buzz yesterday at a power breakfast at Winter, a pop-up restaurant run by Loews Regency Hotel as its traditional spot undergoes renovations," the Post wrote. It seems, though, that the buzz was due to a case of mistaken identity. There is an employee at Concept Capital with the surname Weiner, but his first name is Andrew, not Anthony. Yet another reason that it's unfortunate to go through life with the last name Weiner.

Although, iMediaEthics found out, the Concept Capital employee's surname is actually Wiener. So, Mr. Wiener actually has a totally different name than the former congressman.

The link to the Post story is now dead, but it can still be viewed on other websites. As the real Mr. Weiner could have told the tabloid, it's really almost impossible to hide embarrassing mistakes once they are on the Internet.

Ironically, it appears that the newspaper also deleted the Twitter link from their feed.

Correction 1/17/12: Media watchdog site iMediaEthics alerted us to the fact that the actual surname of Concept Capital's employee is actually Wiener, not Weiner as we reported based on The Daily Intel blog post. We regret the error.

The family of Ki-Suk Han, who was pushed into the subway tracks and killed by an oncoming train on Monday, have had to deal with extensive and controversial media attention since the incident. Mr. Han's widow and daughter, joined by various Korean leaders and Comptroller John Liu, held a press conference this afternoon at the family's church in Maspeth. Mr. Liu said the event was designed to give the family some peace from the press onslaught.

"They have not been able to go home because many of you fine people have been camped outside their home," Mr. Liu said, over the click of cameras. "So by having this media availability, they are hoping that they can show you how badly they are hurting and then they would like to be able to go home."The press conference took place against the backdrop of the controversy over The New York Post's decision to run a photo on yesterday's front page taken moments before Mr. Han was hit and killed. Critics have raised the question of whether the Post photographer, R. Umar Abbasi, should have attempted to help Mr. Han rather than taking shots of the train as it bore down on him. At the press conference, Mr. Han's daughter, Ashley Han, was asked how she felt about the lack of aid her father received in his final moments.

"What's done is done. I'm not really one to dwell about what could have happened," Ms. Han, a 20 year old student at Hunter College, said. "I mean yeah, the thought of someone helping up in a matter of seconds would have been great but like I said, what happened has happened"

For his part, Mr. Abbasi has said he only got the photo because he was "shooting and flashing, hoping the train driver would see something and be able to stop." The family didn't respond to a question from the Observer about the Post cover, but their reverend spoke about how "difficult" it was for them to see the photo.

"Actually, after they saw this photo by The New York Post they couldn't sleep," the Rev. Wantae Cho of the Woo Ri Presbyterian Church said. Mr. Han's widow and daughter have been staying with Mr. Cho since the accident.

With the Post becoming part of the story, the press conference presented an awkward situation for reporters from the tabloid. According to other journalists at the event, reporters from the Post avoided using their press passes that identified their outlet while at the conference.

"I don't want to say where I'm from," a photographer for the Post told us. "We are not well liked around here."

The accident happened at some point around 10:30 A.M. inside 285 Madison —the soon-to-be former home of advertising giant Young & Rubicam.

The victim, who was not identified, walked into the elevator at about 10:30 a.m. on the first floor at 285 Madison Avenue at 40th Street.

The occasionally churlish star of 30 Rock was sitting on an American Airlines plane at Los Angeles International Airport when he caught the ire of a flight attendant.

Mr. Baldwin tweeted:

"Flight attendant on American reamed me out 4 playing WORDS W FRIENDS while we sat at the gate, not moving. #nowonderamericaairisbankrupt"

American Airlines, in a heartwarming display of swift customer service (at least for celebrities), tweeted to Mr. Baldwin and asked for his personal information.

Mr. Baldwin later tweeted that he was moved to a 3:00 p.m. PST American Airlines flight, blasted the airline's flight staff as "retired Catholic school gym teachers from the 1950s," and that presumably put an end to Mr. Baldwin's trivial odyssey.

But nooooooo. Then the NY Post had to be all "Baldwin is an irascible dickhead" by mentioning in its story the bit about Mr. Baldwin blowing up on his daughter's voicemail in the forever-infamous incident.

The NY Post writes:

Baldwin is known for his bad temper.

In 2007, the actor left a nasty voice mail tirade for his young daughter, calling her a “rude, thoughtless little pig.”

He later apologized and wrote a book inspired by that incident.

The Post has been particularly harsh on America's favorite hairy-chested, deep-throated actor/radio host.

Last week, the Post featured video of Mr. Baldwin directing traffic in "angry" fashion.

We say lay off the handsome man, and let him play word games and direct traffic in peace.

ALBANY—Today's New York Post contains a column with an anonymous source calling David Paterson as a "lifestyle politician" only interested in "the trappings, the planes, the Mansion, the bodyguards, the travel, the national TV time—not the work;" an article stating that Paterson's administration "still has no idea" how to spend federal stimulus money for infrastructure; an editorial titled "Dave's dubious dodge" which attacked his non-explanation of raises for senior staffers and this cartoon suggesting that the federal stimulus bill was authored by a crazed monkey.

So when Paterson was asked if he agreed with Al Sharpton in attacking the cartoon as "troubling at best, given the racist attacks throughout history that have made African-Americans synonymous with monkeys," he might have treated it as an opportunity to offer some criticism of his own. He didn't, exactly.

"Number one, I haven't seen the cartoon, but the description certainly puts it in a place where I think an explanation is in order," Paterson said, after Marcia Kramer described the cartoon to him at a press conference in Manhattan. "Save for that, I can't make a determination. In fact, I'm trying to be fair to the New York Post, who is never very fair to me. It just shows that even the rigors and challenges and stresses of the situation have not deterred me from trying to have integrity."

UPDATE: Post Editor Col Allan put out this statement:

"The cartoon is a clear parody of a current news event, to wit the shooting of a violent chimpanzee in Connecticut. It broadly mocks Washington's efforts to revive the economy. Again, Al Sharpton reveals himself as nothing more than a publicity opportunist."
