Get ready to see a lot more pasty teenagers at the Jersey Shore this summer.

Yesterday, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie signed a bill into law that bans children under the age of 17 from using tanning beds in the Garden State.

The law comes from the case of Nutley, N.J. resident Patricia Krentcil, a.k.a. “Tan Mom,” who was arrested last year after being accused of taking her then five-year-old daughter Anna into a tanning bed with her.

"Governmental regulation of the private sector should always be carefully scrutinized, and sparingly adopted," Gov. Christie said in a statement. "The new restrictions imposed by this bill followed a single but breathlessly reported incident of a parent bringing a minor child into a tanning facility."

Under the new law, teens age 17 and older must have a parent or guardian give their consent before they can soak up the cancer-causing, artificial rays. The law also bans children under 14 from getting spray tans.

Ms. Krentcil herself felt the heat and has since gotten out from under the U.V. light. She denied the charges and her case was dropped, and, as of last summer, she actually looks like a reasonable person.

But seriously kids, skin cancer is no joke. When Gov. Christie signed the bill into law he noted that tanning and sunburn before age 35 can increase the risk of melanoma by 75 percent. Lather up, stay out of the sun and embrace your ghostly complexion.

Well, New Jersey's "tan mom" is looking better these days: Patricia Krentcil, the woman who allegedly took her six-year-old in for a crispy finish, took a challenge presented to her by In Touch Weekly and didn't go into a U.V. booth for a whole month! And as the photos show, she looks (relatively) good.

Which obviously is besides the point re: trying to give her baby a nice base-layer.

Ms. Krentcil is on the road to redemption, admitting that she had a tanning problem:

"I've had moments where I've felt like, 'I need to be tan.' And I did all the spray tans and lotions and creams, too — anything to get dark," Krentcil says. "Once a doctor told me to stop tanning. But I didn't listen to him. I wanted to be dark. I like looking like I just got back from vacation."

Say, does anyone remember the name of Ms. Krentcil's daughter?

Today was Ms. Krentcil's court date, and of course TMZ was there to capture Mr. Krentcil sounding like a completely in-control person who should be allowed to have custody over her daughter.

"There’s somebody out there for my whole life that doesn’t like me because they are jealous, fat and they’re ugly."

Why do the most train-wrecked among us always think that people hate them because of their beauty? (See also: Lindsay Lohan, Samantha Brick, everyone on a Real Housewives show.) Well, we all know the obvious outcome of this one...the court should sentence Ms. Krentcil to her own reality show.
