A Charlie Brown Christmas on Hulu — Apparently there is a "War on Charlie Brown Christmas Specials!" Last week, President Obama's speech on Afghanistan bumped A Charlie Brown Christmas from CBS' scheduling, which some people thought was a kind of conspiracy. Anyway, this holiday classic featuring that charming, round-headed boy was recently added to Hulu, so parents need not worry about the kiddies missing out this year. It's only available  until Jan. 1, 2010 so get in your movie night before the New Year.

The Future of New York on Big Think — What will New York look like in 10, 25, or even 50 years? The city in constant reinvention is examined by experts for Big Think's "The Future of New York City" video series. Deputy Mayor Bob Lieber, novelist Paul Auster, an environmental activist, and more offer up some predictions, explaining how New York will become more "green" and warning that its reliance on Wall Street could turn us into Detroit.

The 10 Most Innovative Viral Video Ads of 2009 —Wondering how to make your little YouTube upload an online hit? You might want to check out some of these brilliant viral videos assembled at Mashable. Our favorites include this one for Volkswagen that encouraged people to take the stairs instead of the escalator, and another featuring a baby dancing to a Beyonce's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)," that pumps ad revenue and donations into his college fund. Brilliant.

BBC's Pedigree Dogs Exposed — This heartbreaking, controversial documentary caused a national upset in Britain when it was originally aired last summer. The hour-long film explores, as one expert put it, how we are breeding pedigreed dogs "to death." "Dogs are falling apart," one expert said. "The number of genetic problems are increasing at a frightening pace." BBC refused to air coverage of the annual Crufts dog competition (the U.K. equivalent of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show), according to the Guardian. Although Ofcom, the communications watchdog agency in the U.K., claimed that the documentary did not give the Kennel Club adequate opportunity to respond to the allegations in the film, the documentary forced the Kennel Club to change many of its policies to ensure better canine health (here's a list of some of the changes). The documentary is going to premiere in the States tonight on BBC America at 8 p.m., but you can watch it on MySpace now (not for the faint of heart).

Open Season on Native American sexual assault survivors — More than one in three Native American women will be raped in their lifetime, according to Amnesty International. Open Season is a shorter version of a full-length documentary that explores women survivors of systematic sexual assault; it includes interviews with experts, advocates and the women themselves. Some experts in the film argue that U.S. law enforcement has failed to protect these women or to prosecute their assailants. The film was created by Raquel Chapa, an N.Y.U. graduate and art and film curator who worked on an art show titled Native Voice, which opened in Brooklyn in the spring of 2008. She has also worked in Indigenous Collections at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture in Santa Fe, New Mexico and the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. Acknowledgment and support of her short film will be paid to organizations, communities and leaders that are working to end sexual violence against Native women.

Taxi Driver on Hulu — Taxi Driver needs no introduction. Put one of Martin Scorsese's best in your Hulu queue for one of those dark, wintery nights.

21 Jump Street on Hulu — If you're looking for something a little lighter, there's three seasons of baby-faced Johnny Depp and a gaggle of young rookies playing undercover cops at high schools and sometimes colleges to fight crime. Look for bonus cameos from Brad Pitt, Christina Applegate, Vince Vaughn, Rosie Perez, Jason Priestley, Josh Brolin, Blair Underwood and more!

Path Lights — Path Lights, based on Tom Drury's 2005 New Yorker short story, is a plucky, thoughtful film that remixes the classic detective hero movie. John Hawkes (of Eastbound & Down and Me and You and Everyone We Know fame) plays Bobby, a guy who does voiceovers for an audio detective series. When a beer bottle falls from the sky, just missing his noggin, he decides to find out where it came from. David Lynch Foundation Television is hosting the 22-minute film for one week only, Dec. 2 through Dec. 9, before it makes the film festival rounds in 2010.

Can you throw a no-hitter on LSD? Dock Ellis did — As our sister from the same mister newsletter Very Short List points out, in 1970 "one major leaguer threw a no-hitter while high on acid and Benzedrine." Dock Ellis & the LSD No-No is the hilarious animated short that tells this truly incredible tale. Check it out.

Here Come The Waves: The Hazards Of Love Visualized — The Decemberists, that twee band that sometimes makes good, poppy rock music, just released a full-length "video album" called Here Come The Waves: The Hazards Of Love Visualized. It's available on iTunes and it's the first of this new breed of digital art for Apple's retailer. Four filmmakers—Peter Sluszka, Julia Pott, Guilherme Marcondes and Santa Maria—created original animated shorts with a section of the album as the soundtrack. Check out the official trailer.

A Thanksgiving survival guide on Hulu - Admit it: You'll probably be spending at least some of your Thanksgiving vacation hiding away from family members in your bedroom or at least firing up the laptop to watch some movies on the plane. Picking up where The L Word left off: Anyone But Me - From the executive producer team of award-winning playwright Susan Miller (The L Word and Thirtysomething) and Tina Cesa Ward (In Their Absence) comes this lovely Web show called Anyone But Me. The series follows New York City teenagers grappling with awakening sexuality and all kinds of identity crises. The show was created for StrikeTV.com, a site that launched during the writer's strike to draw attention to original programming on the Web--and it actually succeeds in showing us the potential of the medium. Catch up on the first season before the new episodes debut in December.

Biking Rules PSA winners - Transportation Alternatives recently hosted a PSA competition, asking the city's filmmakers to make Web-friendly clips that explain biking rules. The results were true, creative works of art. Check out this top prize winner, which displayed beautiful animation to show how wearing bike lights are not only safe but eye-catching. Or how it's important to make eye contact with drivers. We also like this old-school style Gear Up: Safety 'N' You video. Wear a helmet, people!

Beatles 3000: The mockumentary of the future - What if PBS did a documentary on The Beatles 1,000 years after John, Paul, Greg, and Scottie (yeah, you read that right--the lineup has changed!) died? Here's what it might look like (hilarity within).

Funny Business at the New Yorker on Big Think - Ever wonder why The New Yorker keeps publishing those old-fashioned looking cartoons? Big Think, a high-quality video site of pundits bloviating on lofty subjects, takes a look behind the line drawings in this series of videos. Editor David Remnick explains how the process works and why it's easier to get a reporter to dodge bullets in Afghanistan than to find a genuinely funny humor writer for those cartoons. Cartoon editor Robert Mankoff recounts his path to humor and the magazine. And you'll want to check out Josh Lieb, the executive producer of The Daily Show, saying "big deal"--those cartoons are cake for talented comedy writers.

92nd Street Y's Fridges - Last week, the 92nd Street Y debuted a new video series called Fridges. They're peeking inside well-known New Yorkers' pantries and freezer boxes to find their snack addictions, dietary restrictions and how long they keep takeout iaround. New York Times reporter Jennifer 8. Lee, author of The Fortune Cookie Chronicles, is the first subject (she'll be at 92Y on Dec. 20 to talk about it). And yes, they realize they're biting off another reality TV show that airs on MTV.

Germans in the Woods - A StoryCorps animation - Since 2003, StoryCorps has been collecting audio recordings of people's stories:  conversations between sons and daughters, immigrants and natives, neighbors and strangers. Each participant received a free CD to share, and stories are also gets preserved at the Library of Congress. It's one of the largest oral history projects of its kind. Rauch Bros., a Brooklyn animation studio, is bringing some of these stories to life in beautiful videos. Here's one about an 86-year-old World War II veteran who, more than 60 years later, can't forget one soldier he killed in the Battle of the Bulge.

How to draw a New Yorker cover - Speaking of the last magazine standing, artist Jorge Colombo sketched another one of his New Yorker covers with the iPhone Brushes application.

Lou Dobbs' most scandalous moments on HuffPo - Now that he's fleeing from CNN, let's review Mr. Dobbs' most jaw-dropping moments on air. How about the time he called Condi a "cotton picker?" or called Rachel Maddow a "tea-bagging queen?" Lest we forget his signature anti-immigration rhetoric.

Maria Schneider's reality show on ArtistShare - The gorgeous band leader-composer was one of the first jazz musicians to harness the power of the Internet, as the Observer told you this week. On ArtistShare, Ms. Schneider has been recording videos, giving her fans an inside look into her writing process and offering them the chance to give her feedback as she creates a piece. Telescope's A Talk With Alfred Hitchcock on Hulu - Hulu recently added this lovely, two-part archive piece that originally aired on the 1960s CBC program Telescope, with director Fletcher Markle sitting down with the Master of Suspense during the prime of his career. Mr. Hitchcock discusses insider-y stories about gathering 28,000 birds for The Birds and shooting the shower scene from Psycho with 78 separate camera shots in 45 seconds. But he also delves into fascinating discussions about the film language and theory and the impact of horror films on society and behavior. A must-see for any film fan.

The art of procrastinating - Laughing Squid points us toward this animated short titled "Procrastination" by John Kelly. How meta. 

GQ's how-tos - With GQ's individual Web site finally breaking free of men.style.com, deputy editor Michael Hainey told the Observer that video will be a major focus. A few examples? There's the popular video of cover girl January Jones looking icey hott during her photoshoots for last month's magazine. Or you can check out some of their how-to videos, from creative director Jim Moore showing you how to buy a suit, or Mr. Hainey himself explaining Project Upgrade, a GQ makeover for guys on city streets.

Details' how-tos - Ohhh! It's a Conde men's monthly style video smackdown! Details, believe it or not, also considers itself a style leader. So the magazine asked New York comedians Max Silvestri and Gabe Delahaye to create a Web show offering "man style" tips on everything from fitness to hosting a dinner party to "looking amazing" because "you never know when you'll run into a millionaire!" (click on the humor tab to find all of 'em). We have to admit, these "mesh-shirt-wearing style experts" are way more fun to watch than any editor on GQ going on about tailoring. And Web editor Paul Katz told the Observer a new series of Max & Gabe videos will be on the way soon.

Mike Bloomberg TV and NYC's Video Voter Guide - It's the time of the season for political campaign TV ads, along with the return of the city's Video Voter Guide!  And as part of Mayor Michael Bloomberg's "spare-no-expenses, take-no-risks bid for a third term," his campaign team is releasing a slew of TV ads and online videos to get voters to the polls. He has his own YouTube channel here if you want to tally up all the videos his team is pumping out. One of the most viewed ? Matt Damon saying he "highly endorse"s Bloomberg.

Alice in Wonderland extended trailer on SpikeTV - Whether you love or hate the fact that director Tim Burton is taking on the children's classic, his film adaptation is sure to be visually... interesting. Check out an extended trailer, and don't miss the super creepy shot of Johnny Depp in full make-up as the Mad Hatter. Yikes!

Balloon Boy's dad's Web show — Richard Heene, the father of the now infamous Balloon Boy, has a history of trying to make it big in strange ways. According to this Fox News article, he was an aspiring actor and filmmaker and created a show called Psyience Detectives. This episode takes "an entertaining look at 2012 facts vs. hype. What is expected to happen? What are all the strange preparations around the world about?" It involved lots of tornado chasing and wearing of sunglasses indoors. "He was totally bizarre with all that garbage," said an old friend to Fox News. "We were like science detectives and storm chasers. Actually, it was very deadly, the storm-chasing stuff. He'd drive a motorcycle into the center of a tornado to get his readings. He would get on this itty-bitty motorcycle and just go."

Huluween on Hulu — Looking for some scary movies to get psyched for Oct. 31? Hulu has the goods. Here's their guide to scary slashers, spooky sci-fi, cult classics and B-movies that will inspire your costume assemblage. Along with Dawn of the Dead and Night of the Living Dead, don't miss the "real-life horror" picks like Ghost Hunters shows and Paranormal TV. Popcorn required.

Mark Bittman's The Minimalist Web show — Out of all the New York Times video shows, Mark Bittman's The Minimalist is the one that's really worth watching. Each week, Mr. Bittman demonstrates, step-by-step, how to make recipes at home. This week, it's Bok Choi with Shiitakes and Oyster Sauce. The intro always makes us laugh ("CHALLAH!") and Mr. Bittman's laid-back style makes fancy, healthy dishes look as easy as heating up a Lean Cuisine. Some favorites? Sweet potato salad, Fig-stuffed pork loin, Savory breakfast. Watch it and eat!

A WWII veteran makes a moving speech about gay marriage rights on BoingBoing — A World War II veteran stood before the Maine State Legislature on April 22, 2009, and gave a testimony on Maine's marriage equality bill. "My name is Phillip Schooner and I live at 5 Graham Street in Biddeford. I am 86 years old and a lifetime Republican and an active VFW," began Mr. Schooner. He went on to talk about his late wife of 54 years and his four sons, one of whom was gay. All of them served in the military and were raised "to be hardworking, patriotic Americans," he said. When he went to vote last June, "the woman at my polling place asked me do I believe in equality for gay and lesbian people. I was pretty surprised to be asked a question like that. It made no sense to me. Finally I asked her, 'What do you think I fought for in Omaha Beach?'"

Candace Bushnell's Web series: The Broadroom - The Observer's former Sex and the City columnist Candace Bushnell has written a four-part Web series about women in the workplace. The show, which premiered online on Sept. 9, stars Jennie Garth (of Beverly Hills, 90210 fame), Jennifer Esposito (seen on Samantha Who?), Talia Balsam (Mad Men), Broadway actress Mary McCann and Lauren Devereux as ladies wrestling with male bosses, breast-feeding in the workplace and, uh, vanilla perfume. The last episode will appear tomorrow, on Oct. 23, so there's time to catch up before the finale. They were written by Ms. Bushnell, directed by Ellen Gittelsohn (who has worked on Roseanne, Designing Women, and Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) and sponsored by Maybelline.

Chaplin on Hulu — While Roman Polanski's scandal rages in Paris, Hulu thought it was about time to post Sir Richard Attenborough's 1992 movie Chaplin. Nominated for three Oscars, the biographical film starred Robert Downey Jr. as the infamous comedic filmmaker with a taste for younger women. At age 35, he married a 16-year-old. His last and longtime wife, Oona, Eugene O'Neill's daughter, had just turned 18 when they wed. She was 36 years his junior.

One Fast Move or I'm Gone: Kerouac's Big Sur trailer on YouTube — In 1960, post–On The Road buzz, a jaded and moody Jack Kerouac holed up in Lawrence Ferlinghetti's cabin in the Big Sur woods, which became of the backdrop of his gritty, semi-autobiographical novel Big Sur. This new documentary tells the making of that novel through the voice of actor and Kerouac interpreter John Ventimiglia (Artie from HBO's The Sopranos) and includes stories told from his friends and peers, including Ferlinghetti, Carolyn Cassady and Michael McClure. The film also features  reflections and a soundtrack by Tom Waits, Sam Shepard, Patti Smith, Aram Saroyan and Donal Logue. Check out the trailer and see it this Friday at the Chelsea Clearview.

It was where their famous dishes were tested, tasted, and debated by editors and chefs before appearing in the magazine's pages. Get a glimpse inside the cookroom with these videos on creating the magazine's best recipes—and take the tips on how to make spiced milk tea or how to use a pressure cooker!

How food shapes our cities on TED.com — Speaking of food, huge urban cities like London and New York serve 30 million meals per day. But where does all the food come from? Vintage Lady Gaga — The Observer got in touch with Lady Gaga's old bandmates, when they were known as the Stefani Germanotta Band. And here's video of Ms. Gaga performing in 2006 at a Manhattan club called the Bitter End in this old clip posted on YouTube a few weeks ago. Her former guitarist told us: “She was very bubbly, very eccentric, very driven.” But “the high art thing? I did not see any hints of that!”

Artist Jeff Koons in his New York studio — Artist Jeff Koons is curating the Dakis Joannou Collection coming to the New Museum in late February 2010, which is the first time that Mr. Joannou's collection will be seen in the United States.
