Carroll Gardens Brownstone

Rug Designer Goes After A Fresh Set of Floors in $2.2 M Brooklyn Condo

Although a townhouse in Clinton Hill would seem an ideal place to raise a family, textile designer Shelley Goldberg and her husband Tony Writer, founder of the market research firm Headspace, apparently had their hearts set on Carroll Gardens.

The couple has purchased a condo at 240 Carroll Street for $2.27 million, a little over the $2.25 million ask, according to city records. The four-bedroom spread was listed with Corcoran broker Lindsay Barton Barrett and spent less than a month on the market. Read More

Badly Decorated UES Townhouse Finally Sells

Badly Decorated UES Townhouse Finally Sells

With electric blue carpeting in one bedroom, matching powder blue patterned bedspreads and wallpaper in another and gilded antiques of different vintage cluttering up just about every room in the townhouse, it may have been hard for potential buyers to picture themselves living in 138 East 65th Street.

At least, it was a hard house Read More

A $4 million parlour?

J.Crew Style Maven’s House Sells For $4 Million

J.Crew is known for its upscale but largely affordable clothes, but when it comes to some items—like president and creative director Jenna Lyons’ Park Slope townhouse—people are apparently willing to pay above retail.

The fashion guru’s 7 bed, 3.5 bath, 4,400 square foot townhouse sold for $4 million to Vincent and Tracy Martin, according to Curbed — 7 percent more than the $3.75 million that Ms. Lyons listed the property for last November. Read More

"Oliver" Sarkozy, but he still looks tres francais, non?

Tech Investor Snaps Up Avedon Townhouse from Sarkozy

Oliver Sarkozy (née Pierre Olivier), half-brother of French President Nicolas Sarkozy,  has just sold the Upper East Side townhouse he purchased back in 2005. Like his brother’s current standings in the polls, it seemed the final sale price left much to be desired.

Mr. Sarkozy originally put 407 East 75th Street on the market for $11.95 million in May 2012, but ultimately fetched just $8.4 million for the six-bedroom, 5.5-bath place, city records show. Read More

48 West 69th Street

Winos Sell Lincoln Center Townhouse for $11 M.

While their first love may be organic wine, Dana Johnson and Mark Nelson must have a special place in their heart for real estate. As  owners of the Ovid vineyard in Napa Valley, the couple boast impressive holdings in wine country, and, until quite recently, also had a nice full-bodied pied-a-terre on the Upper West Side, though the oenophiles have spilled their townhouse at Lincoln Center.

The 20-foot-wide brownstone located at 48 West 69th Street, was built in 1898. The California-based couple bought it almost a century later in 1997, paying a mere $1.67 million dollars for the property at the time, according to StreetEasy. While we cannot vouch for their Chardonnays, the home was a worthy investment: Ms. Johnson and Mr. Nelson have sold it for a full $11 million, according to city records. Read More

142 East End Avenue (StreetEasy)

Star Pathologist and O.J. Defense Witness Sells in Yorkville

Way back in 1995, a forensic pathologist took the stand of the O.J. Simpson trial. An expert witness for the defense, Michael Baden suggested that there had been two killers that fateful night, and O.J was ultimately let off. Mr. Baden has unloaded some serious baggage recently, but it isn’t an explanation for his dubious theory. No, in this case it comes in the form of a four-bedroom, four-bath townhouse in Yorkville.

Dr. Baden, who  briefly served as New York’s Chief Medical Examiner in the late 1970s, just sold a townhouse at 142 East End Avenue, according to city records. While he got O.J. off scot-free, the good doctor took a hit on the sale. Originally listed last May for $4.1 million, the blood-red brick townhouse just fetched $3.55 million. Read More

The exterior looks very stately.

It’s a Mansion! It’s a Loft! It’s Only $45 M. Dollars!

This Tribeca townhouse is so hip it looks like it’s from the future. There’s exposed brick everywhere, a glass staircase, bold-colored walls and lots of shiny metal. It’s far from homey, but it’s definitely a trophy you can brag about to all your Upper East Side friends.

At $45 million—well above the downtown record—you’ll get the entire property, including three rental units, commercial space, a gym and the owner’s living unit, which comprises three floors and 2,775 square feet of outdoor space. Read More
