While taking lunch seems to be a dying privilege in NYC, there are still some New Yorkers who have time for leisurely midday meals. Last week, supermodel and entrepreneuse Petra Němcová invited us to lunch at Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s ABC Cocina, where we chatted about her recently launched sustainable home decor company, Be The Light, which is based on her extensive global travel.
Fashion Week Observed
Last night’s Style Awards may have kicked off Fashion Week (and, unfortunately, Rosh Hashanah…though that didn’t seem to stop Zac Posen from attending), but that wasn’t the only “first” it had going for it. Presented in partnership with CNN (who will be getting original content during all of Fashion Week,) the 10th Annual Style Awards were taped, but not for a live performance…the ceremony will “premiere” on Saturday, September 14. Which seems a little odd, since that’s way after Fashion Week, but oh well! The mood in Lincoln Center’s Theater was oddly subdued, despite the A-list attendees including host Nicole Richie, Amar’e Stoudemire, Victor Cruz, Kate Upton, Christie Brinkley and a special performance by Ariana Grande. Perhaps that had something to do with the night’s MC, VH1′s Sherrod Small, who tried his best to get the room laughing, but clearly didn’t know that the majority of the fashion industry are not straight men.
Fashion Week has gotten so violent this year! First we had the news of Milk Studios founder Mazdack Rassi getting sucker-punched at the Alexander Wang after party, and now PR maven Lynn Tesoro has slapped Jennifer Eymere, editor of the French magazine Jalouse with a million-dollar lawsuit for physically assaulting her at the Zac Posen show last weekend.

At all three parties The Observer attended Saturday night, we heard the usual refrains from the people guarding the door: “You’re wasting your time;” “I can’t help you tonight, sir;” “No” (our personal favorite). We got in anyway, of course.
